Tourist Visas

Visa-free entry to Qatar is provided to nationals from over 80 approved countries. Nationals from other countries not eligible for visa-free entry may apply online for a visa through Qatar’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) programme. Nationals from countries who are not eligible for either option may apply online for a Tourist Visa.

Travellers who arrive in Qatar on a stop-over flight can apply for a Transit Visa, making the most of the time they have in between flights by getting out of the airport and into the city.

How to Apply for a Visa

ETA/Tourist Visa

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) and Tourist Visas can be applied and paid for with relative ease. You will need to complete an online application form and provide relevant documentation, for you and any accompanying travellers, prior to travelling. You will not be able to apply using this service for any children endorsed on parent’s passports.
One of the most commonly used services is the Qatar Visa Service provided by VFS Global on behalf of the Ministry of Immigration, the National Tourism Council (NTC) and Qatar Airways. Alternatively, depending on your travel plans, you may also apply for a Tourist Visa through other service providers, i.e. National Tourism Council approved Hotels and Travel Agents. Under these circumstances, service providers will be able to apply for visas online for you.
To apply online you will need to provide clear, coloured copies of the following information/documentation during the application process:

  • Your passport (valid for a minimum of 6 months);
  • A passport-sized photo;
  • Your airline reservation;
  • A confirmed hotel reservation or other relevant documents (i.e. an invitation letter from a friend or relative) confirming the location of your stay in Qatar.

If you are applying for an ETA you will also need to provide:

  • Your residence permit and/or visa, or visitor visa for one of the countries eligible for this service (valid for a minimum of 30 days).

Additional documentation proving marriage status, financial status, or evidence of travel to any of the following countries in the last five years - Australia, Canada, Qatar, New Zealand, Schengen Countries, United Kingdom, United States - may also be required.
Applications for both ETA and Tourist Visas can be made a maximum of 90 days and a minimum of 4 working days** before you travel. It is recommended that you apply for your visa as early as possible to allow for any unforeseen complications or delays.
Approved ETA or Tourist Visas, providing all documentation is submitted correctly, are usually sent via email within 4 working days of your application. Applications can be tracked via the VFS Global website - you just need your Reference Number, provided when you submitted your application, and your Airline Booking Reference.

Traveller's who book their flights through Qatar Airways can begin their visa application via the ‘My Trips’ section of the Qatar Airways website, once flights have been booked.

Working days in Qatar are Sunday to Thursday.

Transit Visa

Only travellers who have booked their flights with Qatar Airways, flying on Qatar Airways operated flights only, can apply for a Transit Visa.
To apply for a Transit Visa, once you have booking confirmation, navigate to the Visas and Passports page of the Qatar Airways website and click ‘Apply’. Enter your booking reference and last name and you will then be able to upload a scanned copy of your passport to begin the application process. Alternatively, you can apply in person at any Qatar Airways ticket office. Approved visas will be sent via email prior to your trip. Applications can be tracked via the Qatar Airways website - you just need your passport number or your visa request number, provided when you submitted your application.
Visas are valid from the date of issue; entry into Qatar must be within 30 days from the date of issue, which is something to keep in mind when you apply for your visa. Additionally, if your stopover is less than 24 hours you will not be able to claim any checked-in baggage. So, make sure you pack everything you need for your stopover in your carry-on bag.
