The Emir Cup


The Emir Cup is the biggest football tournament in Qatar.


Every season, 17 Qatari First and Second Division teams fight it out on the football pitch for a chance to win the coveted Emir Cup. First played in 1972, 1st Division team, Al Sadd FC have won the title 17 times - making them the most successful team in the Emir Cup history. Al Sadd's last win was in 2017, and they played the final against Al Rayyan FC at the newly renovated Khalifa International Stadium. The stadium was the first venue, of the eight new stadiums being built for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, to be completed for the 2022 tournament. The Final match was celebrated alongside the stadium's inauguration ceremony.
