In Full Speed

The average speed of a horse at full gallop is around 44 kph (27 mph).

Officially, Thoroughbreds are the fastest horse breed. In 2008, a Thoroughbred horse, named Winning Brew, entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest speed ever clocked on a racecourse. Over a two-furlong race, the horse achieved a speed of 70.76 kph (43.97 mph).

Unofficially, the fastest recorded speed for a horse galloping over a short sprint distance was set at 88 kph (55 mph).
