What to Wear

Keeping cool in Qatar is easy, just keep covered. Dress like the locals to avoid getting hot under the collar.

Long-sleeved tops and full-length trousers and skirts protect your skin from the sun rays. Loose clothing allows air to circulate, keeping you cool and allowing moisture to evaporate from your skin, which is our bodies natural method of keeping cool. Light coloured clothing absorbs less heat than dark, and lightweight clothing allows heat to escape from our bodies.

So, long, light and loose clothing are best for keeping cool in soaring temperatures. Unless of course, you are a Bedouin. The heavy black robes, traditionally worn by Bedouins in the desert, while they do absorb heat, also keep the heat from the skin due to the robes thickness. In effect, the robes create a barrier between the sun and the skin.
